Magenta Baribeau was born in Hull, Quebec, on the other side of the river from Canada's capital, Ottawa. She was always an artistic child, making up plays and learning her favourite movies by heart. She started writing plays with her brother at the age of 10. She always wanted to become a model, but was turned down due to her height (5' 4").
