Kelley Deal and her twin sister, Kim Deal, grew up in Dayton, Ohio. When they were teenagers, they formed their own folk-rock duo, The Breeders, playing at local truck stops. When Kim moved to Boston in 1986 and joined a new band, The Pixies, Kelley moved to Los Angeles, where she was a computer programmer, and rumored to also being a caterer.
